Copper Hills Youth Center’s programs for Sexual Misconduct are broken up into boys and girls units, and each provide specialized programs for adolescents with and without learning challenges.
Higher Functioning Unit
The Boys Sexual Misconduct programming is based on a supportive peer system and provides rewards for good behavior immediately. During treatment, residents use specially designed workbooks to help learn and create changes to inappropriate behavior. In addition to individual therapy, they will also attend group therapy, such as:
- Anger Management
- Relapse Prevention
- Victim Awareness
- Impulse Control
- Problem Solving
- Refusal Skills
- Cognitive Restructuring
Long before discharge, boys will have developed the skills needed to keep them on the right path and prevent them from making poor choices again.
Lower Functioning Unit
The Boys Sexual Misconduct program focuses on the same treatment goals as boys in the higher functioning unit, but use different workbooks and move at a slower pace to help them understand concepts. All of the treatment occurs within a separate unit away from the higher-functioning boys. Lower-functioning boys typically have a longer stay due to their learning challenges, but will have developed the skills needed to avoid having the same problem afterward.
