Substance Abuse Treatment

Copper Hills Youth Center treats teens who suffer from substance abuse in a safe environment under the constant guidance of trained staff. Our treatment program inspires residents to work toward sobriety, healthy living, a successful future and becoming bright members of society.

Substance abuse treatment is different for each patient, and qualified therapists work with each patient to create a treatment plan that is right for them. We try to heal the person as a whole rather than just his substance abuse problem and provide each resident the tools needed to stay clean and healthy. In addition to substance abuse problems, we also address behavioral problems, family relationships school, life skills and mental health issues in treatment.

The assessment process includes the following to assist in diagnosing and identifying treatment needs:

  • Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI)
  • Health and physical exam
  • Urine drug screening, including ethanol
  • Psychiatric evaluation
  • Psychosocial Evaluation
  • Recreational Therapy Evaluation

Resident Process

Residents that have been assessed and diagnosed with a substance-related disorder will begin the chemical dependency therapy process. This process includes:

1. Individual Therapy/Family Therapy:
Therapists address system breakdowns and work on resolving conflicts.
This group is designed to accelerate treatment and help the resident to be a productive and contributing member of their community.

2. Development of a Relapse Prevention Plan:
A written agreement will be completed and processed with all members of the treatment team.

Upon completion of the treatment process, the Copper Hills Youth Center Treatment Team will develop an after-care plan that will assist in a smooth transition from the structured environment of a residential treatment center to an independent or family-living setting. Appointments for after care will be scheduled prior to discharge from Copper Hills.
